The Optimal Lab, led by Kimia Ghobadi at the Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering, develops mathematical optimization and machine-learning methods for healthcare. Our work spans the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE), the Department of Civil and Systems Engineering, and the Malone Center for Engineering in Healthcare.
We collaborate closely with clinicians and health systems to translate rigorous methods — robust optimization, inverse optimization, and AI for clinical data — into tools that hospitals, clinicians, and patients can actually use.
